Online Ducted System Installation & Design

Course overview

This interactive online course is designed for Air Conditioning & Heat Pump installers who want to expand into ducted systems with confidence. Sessions are live (not recorded), with ample time for questions and practical application.

Objective

Build practical capability in the fundamentals of installing and designing residential ducted systems. Prior experience with general heat pump installation is recommended.

Note: The focus is domestic ducted installations rather than full commercial ductwork design.

• Involving the end user in the design process.
• Indoor/outdoor unit location and noise considerations.
• Ductwork types and layout; diffuser selection.
• Supply and return grille sizing; return air velocity.
• Sensor placement.
• Demo of Plandroid and supporting tools.
• Using the Duct Sizing Disc for design and troubleshooting.
• Examples of incorrect installation.
• Introduction to zone control systems.

Installation

• Planning and sequencing the install.
• Best-practice ductwork connections and layout (bends/outlets).
• Anti-vibration measures.
• How installation choices affect operation and performance.
• Supply and return grille positioning.
• Remote control operation and placement.
• Fresh-air interface.

Commissioning & handover

• Control operation and function setting adjustments.
• Airflow balancing; fan speed vs capacity/noise.
• Clear client explanation of discharge and return air.
